Epson recognized a segment of the fine art, photography and pre-press market that did not need or want a roll-fed capability. In fact, these customer prefer the lay-flat characteristics of the prints coming from the Stylus Pro 3800, no more fighting with the curl of media coming off a roll. Thus was born the Epson 3800, with a high-capacity sheet-feeder that
accommodates sheet media up to 17 X 22 and various single sheet feed options.
The Stylus Pro 3800 incorporates several new innovations from Epson. The Epson 3800 is the first Pro printer to feature the new auto-switching black mode ink head. This ink head permits the simultaneous loading of both the matte black and photo black ink in the Epson 3800 printer. When a media calls for one or the other ink an process automatically switches the ink at the head in next to no time or ink loss.
The Stylus Pro 3800 also features the most accurate ink dot and ink dot placement in the industry. You might think, dots, spots, splotches-what do I care? Well printing science is about getting ink on paper, in the best way possible. The fact is that Epson does it better than anybody; the Epson dots are more uniformly formed, more accurately sized, and more accurately placed on the paper. The results are clear, pun intended; the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer will produce the most accurately detailed prints, the most photo-realistic prints, the most accurately graded prints among it competitors, including Canon and HP.
The Epson 3800 comes in two configurations the Stylus Pro 3800 and the Stylus Pro 3800 Pro. The 3800 Pro model includes the Colorburst Postscript Rip for printing postscript jobs from programs such as Quark, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. Colorburst also has an emulation of a sheet fed printing press that makes the Stylus Pro 3800 remarkably good at pre-press proofing, right out of the box.
